When a piece of work is so clearly a sort of spiritual successor cancertoto to a living, breathing, regularly updating behemoth, figuring out what to make of it is slightly difficult, I’ve found. Once you reach this point, you’re given the option to either embrace or rebuke your newfound dynamic. If you choose to do nothing, you are unable to grow closer (or further apart), providing an interesting little twist to socialization. Though it’d be a lot more interesting if these branched out–right now, for example, leveling up friendship just leads to the pair becoming “close friends” then “BFFs”–it’s still a neat little innovation that sets InZoi apart.

That said, with weak and repetitive combat encounters, a scarcity of things to keep you busy, and loads of technical issues, there’s a lot of room left for improvement that can be a little tough to endure at the moment. There are enough good ideas here that I’m optimistic Aloft could be quite worth your time at some point in the future, but right now you might want to wait for stronger winds to blow before setting sail.
